NO PLACE FOR US (ONGOING)
The Franco-British border remains one of Europe’s major human rights hotspots for thousands of people seeking refuge.
Despite facing constant evictions from informal camps and being forced to take ever-greater risks in their attempts to cross the English Channel, migrants continue to arrive on the French coast with the aim of leaving the European Union and reaching the United Kingdom.
More than 41,000 people crossed the English Channel in small inflatable boats in 2025, according to data from the Migration Observatory at the University of Oxford.
Reuniting with family members, language barriers, and obstacles within the European Union’s asylum system are among the reasons why thousands of people continue to attempt this migration route.
